“Yarmouth Castle Burning”
My coauthor Randall Peffer and I are excited to announce that our latest book “Yarmouth Castle Burning” is being published this fall, and will be released on Sept. 28, 2025.
“Yarmouth Castle Burning” explores the deadliest passenger ship disaster off the coast of the United States since the Morro Castle disaster in 1934, when in the early morning hours of November 23, 1965 the cruise liner SS Yarmouth Castle caught fire and sank near Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas, with the loss of 90 lives.
Based on our collection of firsthand narratives from survivors and their families, thousands of pages of testimony from the United States Coast Guard accident investigation, and contemporaneous press coverage, “Yarmouth Castle Burning” is primarily the story of the night the Castle burned and, secondarily, the legal and regulatory aftermath of the disaster. The book also includes three case studies of subsequent ship fires, how they were handled and how they related to the Yarmouth Castle fire.
“Yarmouth Castle Burning” is now available for preorder at your favorite bookseller.
